Bohemian Wedding Aesthetic
When people say "Boho wedding," there’s usually a pretty clear image that comes to mind—flowy dresses, wildflowers, maybe some macramé here and there. But what I loved about this particular Gather Greene wedding (one of my favorite Hudson Valley venues) was how this couple took that free-spirited vibe and made it totally, unapologetically their own.
Yes, there were the beautiful bohemian details—like the earth-toned bridesmaid dresses, mismatched vintage china, and a lace wedding gown with bell sleeves that was just dreamy enough without feeling too precious. But there was also… space ice cream. And actual, full-size arcade games. Because why not?
The groom came to me with some big ideas (and I mean big) for ways to make the day feel personal and fun—and I was so here for it. I’ll admit, tracking down legit arcade machines wasn’t exactly the easiest sourcing mission of my career, but seeing how much joy it brought to the day was absolutely worth it.
These two laughed their way through the entire planning process.
Honestly, I think they were laughing their way through the entire wedding day, too. Their energy was just so infectious—the kind of couple that makes everyone around them feel a little lighter, a little happier.
The groom is actually a graphic designer (and a really talented one at that), so he designed all the printed elements himself—from the invitation suite right down to the little details like signage and menus. It gave everything this extra layer of personality that no Etsy download could ever match.
For the music, we brought in a bluegrass band from Brooklyn, who set up right in front of the ceremony arch once the vows were done—turning that gorgeous ceremony backdrop into the stage for the rest of the night. It was such a cool, seamless transition and made the whole space feel alive.
The lounge setup (because, yes, not everyone wants to be on the dance floor all night) featured some retro-modern—or maybe the better word is “mid-century with a twist”—furniture from one of my favorite vintage rental companies. It was the perfect hangout zone for guests who wanted to relax, sip a cocktail, and soak it all in.
And speaking of soaking it in… the dessert station stole the show. The catering team really went above and beyond on this one—not just with the full menu (which was chef's kiss start to finish), but that dessert spread? Absolutely gorgeous. Almost too pretty to eat… almost.
Of course, because no wedding day is complete without a little curveball, the weather decided not to cooperate. We had to move the ceremony indoors last minute—but honestly? It worked. Better than we could have planned. The couple leaned right into it (because that’s who they are), and the photos from that impromptu indoor shoot are some of my favorite moments from the whole day.
Moral of the story:
A solid rain plan is your best friend. And sometimes the unexpected is exactly what makes the day unforgettable.
