Wedding Alone Time - Why it is so important!

why-you-should-take-alone-time-on-your-wedding-day-from-an-expert-hudson-valley-wedding-planner

Here's a brief summary of why - but there's more to the story!

  1. This is likely the ONLY alone time the two of you will have ALL DAY

  2. You will likely not be able to try any of the cocktail hour food otherwise

  3. It gives you some time to take a deep breath, appreciate what you just did (got married), maybe bustle your dress.. then go back into the party

I wrote before about turning heartfelt vows into an intimate moment with your partner, instead of a public declaration in front of loved ones. There are many ways to rethink traditions and make your wedding more unique, less stressful, and meaningful for you and your spouse.

Today, I want to share a Jewish tradition. I believe everyone, regardless of their beliefs, should consider it for their wedding. It is something known as a Yichud, which means "togetherness" in Hebrew. The concept behind it is a wonderful, well-thought-out addition to anyone's wedding day!

The idea is to take just 5 to 10 minutes alone immediately after the ceremony. As a wedding planner, I always encourage my couples to include this in their wedding day schedule. I'm ready to meet them after they've kissed, made their way up the aisle, but before the guests descend upon them. We then go to a quiet place where they can just take a breather.

You want to do it right after the ceremony. Once you are with your loved ones, it will be hard to pull away. Pick a spot in advance, somewhere quiet with a door. Let your caterer know where and that you would like a sampler tray of hors d'oeuvres. Also, ask for some water, and maybe some prosecco or signature cocktails.  This is likely the only opportunity you will have to actually try any of the cocktail hour food. It is also, and I mean this literally, the only alone time the two of you will have all day.

Station someone outside the door to ensure no one interrupts and to keep track of time for you. Take a moment to savor the fact that you've tied the knot and can enjoy a little private time before joining the celebration.
